Technology, installation, perspectives
"Run-flat tyres" (RFT) together with specialised installation are also called "ultra high performance tyres" (UHPT). This topic as well as different technical characteristics and especially the correct handling during installation has concerned the automotive, tyre / motor vehicle repair branch for a long time. If, for example, BMW uses RFT technology for the original equipment, other manufacturers decide on using alternatives or decide against it entirely. Tyre manufacturers react just as varyingly in terms of technology.
This textbook firstly goes into details of the RFT / UHPT topic and describes the history, technology and the current installation guide lines. It fills the respective knowledge gaps about handling of run-flat tyres in car dealerships, workshops and installation businesses. Furthermore, renowned motor vehicle / tyre industry representatives sketch out the future developments of tyres with run-flat properties with a focus on requirements / mobility concepts and new marketing attemps.
